Tagette oil originates from west-central South Africa and was introduced there by colonial troops in their horse fodder. It a strong growing annual with a smell that spans between sharpness and pungency to pleasant, fruity green tones. The whole plant is placed in the bedding of animals as a flea and moth repellent. Garden plants there are sprayed with a warm water extraction to keep them free from insects, aphids in particular.

This liquid varies in color from yellow to brick red. It blends well with bergamot, citrus oils, clary sage, lavender and jasmine.
