Essential Oil Techniques

Inhalation
The simple approach is to uncap the bottle and inhale, or put a few drops on a tissue and breathe in. A more efficient method is to place two or three drops in the palm of one hand, rub both palms together then raise to cover nose in a pyramid /prayer shape. In this fashion, inhale deeply through the nose, turn the head to the side and exhale though the mouth. Repeat for up to two minutes.

Soaking Bath
After filling tub add 6-12 drops of essential oil to water and swirl to disperse oil evenly. Use this type of bath to soak and relax in, not for washing purposes.

Diffusers
Diffusers range from inexpensive devices that operate by evaporation, to sophisticated nebulizers that infuse the air with microscopic droplets of essential oil.

Massage
Add 10-12 drops of essential oil to 1oz of massage oil to cover a whole body massage.
Add 15-20 drops for intensive action to relieve a specific area of discomfort.

Tenting
In a glass bowl, mix one quart of hot distilled water with 5-10 drops of oil. Cover head with a towel and lean over bowl (tent like) and keep face approximately 8-10’ from the bowl. Inhale and exhale deeply until the scent of the oil has evaporated.

Compresses
Fill a medium sized glass bowl with warm or cool distilled water. Add 5-10 drops of the essential oil or oil blend and mix thoroughly. Soak a small cloth with mixture, then squeeze out excess water and apply directly to the affected area. Apply a hot compress for arthritis, cramps or muscle pain; cool for headaches, tension and bruises.

Spray Mist

Fill a spray style bottle with distilled water and add 5-10 drops of the essential oil or blend. The spray adds a wonderful fragrance to the air surrounding you.
