It is believed that the earliest record of an essential oil extract from a South African plant could have been in 1667, when Cape Snowbush was distilled. Its leaves are similar to those or rosemary, and in the spring, the plant is covered in small white flowers, giving the impression that it's covered in "snow" — hence the name Snowbush.
This oil is viscous and pale yellow with an aroma similar to Cape Chamomile’s but with unique aromatic, spiced Artemisia notes. It blends well with basil, bergamot, benzoin, cedarwood, frankincense, fennel, geranium, ginger, lemon, litsea cubeba, mandarin, palmarosa, sandalwood, vetivert and ylang-ylang.
Cape Snowbush has the potential for the treatment of stress related ailments, especially for improving sleep patterns. It "warms" the emotions, and can be very useful in the treatment of depression.
Possible contraindications warn against use in early pregnancy.
